Man arrested for assault and wanton endangerment after being upset by traffic in downtown Lexington
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Police have arrested a man they say assaulted a safety officer and endangered his life, after being upset by heavy traffic in downtown Lexington.
According to police, on October 21st, 54-year-old Michael Brown was stopped on Saunier Alley, near Short Street, while a Lexington Police Safety Officer and a Lexington Opera House employee directed a bus through traffic.
Police say this upset Brown, who got out of his car and punched the safety officer in the stomach.
When the officer stepped in front of Brown’s car, police say he accelerated, taking the officer along for the ride on the hood.
Police say that officer was thrown off of the car just before the intersection of Short Street and Broadway, before Brown sped off.
When police found Brown later, he told them he had run away because he was scared.
He is charged with assault and wanton endangerment.
