Mainly dry and pleasant weather on the way for the weekend
A few showers will be possible Saturday morning before things quiet down
A weak disturbance moving in from the west brought a cloudy finish to the week, but temperatures stayed seasonable across Central and Eastern Kentucky. After a chilly start Friday morning with lows in the 30s, a steady south wind helped push afternoon highs back into the low to mid-50s—a pleasant way to end the workweek.
As we head into Friday night, a weak low-pressure system will slide through the region, bringing a few scattered showers overnight into early Saturday morning. Rainfall amounts will be light, generally just a couple of hundredths of an inch, with slightly higher totals possible north of I-64. The rain should taper off by late morning, giving way to drier but cooler conditions for the rest of Saturday.
Weekend Outlook: Cool Start, Warmer Finish
Behind the departing system, Saturday will feature gradually clearing skies with temperatures near 50° in the afternoon. A north wind will reinforce slightly cooler air, making for a seasonable early March day. By Sunday, a disturbance passing to our south will bring some extra clouds, but precipitation should stay out of Kentucky. Despite the cloud cover, temperatures will warm a few degrees, with highs reaching the mid-50s—right on par for this time of year.
One big change to remember—Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday! That means we “spring forward” and lose an hour of sleep, but in return, we’ll enjoy a later sunset, with daylight stretching well past 7:30 p.m.
Spring Warmth Returns Next Week
If you’ve been waiting for a true taste of spring, you won’t have to wait much longer! A strong warming trend will kick in next week, sending temperatures soaring into the 60s on Monday and the low-70s by Tuesday and Wednesday. Skies will be mostly sunny, allowing for several gorgeous afternoons to enjoy the outdoors.
By Thursday, a weak system will move through, bringing a few scattered showers, but rain chances look light, and temperatures will remain mild. Highs will dip slightly into the upper 60s, but it will still feel great for mid-March.
