Mainly dry and pleasant to kick off the weekend

Location will be key with a few showers possible down south

It’s been a nice stretch of weather the last few days across Central and Eastern Kentucky and Friday was no exception. With high pressure sitting over the Ohio Valley and a northeast breeze in place, we enjoyed plenty of sunshine and pleasant conditions as afternoon highs topped out either side of the 80 degree mark. A weak wave of energy to the southwest will drift in as a weak cold front races through the region from the north so a few scattered showers and storms look to be on the table across Southern Kentucky during the overnight hours with just increasing clouds across the Bluegrass region.

Drier air should be winning out for most of Central and Eastern Kentucky heading into Saturday so overall it looks like a pretty good day for most locations. A few lingering showers will be possible down south in the morning but otherwise it should be a dry start to the weekend with a mix of clouds and sunshine expected. A steady northeast wind should hold temperatures in check a few degrees but it will still be warm as afternoon highs reach the upper 70s in most locations as another area of high pressure builds into the region.

Closing out the month of May on Sunday, the area of high pressure will slide eastward allowing another wave of energy to move in from the southwest. Most of the day should be dry for any outdoor plans you have but a few showers may creep into our southwestern counties by the end of the day. With partly sunny skies on tap, temperatures should top out into the upper 70s in most spots. Moisture should spread a little farther north Sunday night and into Monday as another fast moving front dropping through the Ohio Valley interacts with the mid-level wave passing to our south. This will bring back the chance for a few showers and storms with the highest concentration being across Southern Kentucky as we welcome June on Monday. Temperatures will continue to be warm despite a bit more cloudiness and some showers around with highs hanging in the upper 70s.

A stronger area of high pressure will move into the Great Lakes and the Ohio Valley for the first few days of the new month bringing a tranquil stretch of weather to our area. With plenty of sunshine expected through the middle of next week, it should be delightful to be outdoors as afternoon highs reach the mid to upper-70s Tuesday and Wednesday before climbing back toward 80 degrees later in the week. The dry weather should hang around until low end shower chances begin to creep back in heading toward next weekend.
