Mainly dry and pleasant into the holiday weekend
Low end shower chances should return by Memorial Day
We wrapped up the week on a high note across Central and Eastern Kentucky. While it still felt more like early spring than late May, Friday featured plenty of sunshine and calmer conditions—ideal for those beginning their Memorial Day weekend travels. Morning lows dipped into the low to mid-40s, which is unusually chilly for this time of year, but afternoon highs bounced back into the mid and upper 60s. Light winds and clear skies made it a great “getaway day” to kick off the long weekend.
Saturday: Sunshine Dominates, Near-Perfect Outdoor Weather
Saturday is shaping up to be another beautiful day across the region. High pressure will remain in control, allowing for lots of sunshine and just a gentle breeze. Afternoon highs should climb right around 70°, making for a great day to be outside—whether it’s grilling, gardening, or heading to the lake. A stationary front will linger to our south, but it’s expected to stay far enough away that any shower chances remain confined to far southern counties with just a few scattered clouds for the rest of the area. Overall Saturday looks dry and delightful.
Sunday and Memorial Day: Not a Washout, But Keep the Umbrella Handy
Earlier this week, it looked like the second half of the holiday weekend could be a soggy mess. Fortunately recent trends in the forecast have pulled back on that idea. The stalled front to our south may inch a bit closer on Sunday and Monday, but rather than widespread rain, expect scattered showers at best—mainly for southern Kentucky. Northern and central areas will likely stay dry for much of the time. The takeaway? Sunday and Memorial Day aren’t total washouts and many locations may dodge the rain entirely. Highs both days will hover near 70°, right around average for this time of year, though it will feel cooler under clouds or a stray shower.
Tuesday: Wettest Day of the Week, Unsettled Weather Returns
While the holiday weekend is looking more favorable, Tuesday appears to be the next soggy day. A low-pressure system will move through the Ohio Valley, bringing widespread rain and a few heavier downpours—especially across southern Kentucky. Rainfall totals could exceed an inch in some areas with localized flooding possible where the heaviest bands set up, particularly in those areas down south that have seen a lot of wet weather lately. Rain gear may end up being a must for Tuesday.
Unfortunately, this system doesn’t mark the end of the unsettled pattern. Looking ahead to midweek, forecast models suggest another upper-level low may set up shop across the eastern U.S., bringing continued daily shower chances, more clouds, and highs that stay stuck in the low 70s. Let’s hope we can flip the script heading into June.
Friday Night: Fair skies, another chilly night. Lows in the mid-40s. Wind: W 5 mph.
Saturday: Mostly sunny and pleasant, a stray shower south. Highs in the upper-60s. Wind: Light.
Saturday Night: A few clouds, still cool. Lows in the upper-40s to low-50s. Wind: NE 5 mph.
