LPD: Beware of man soliciting donations

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Police Department is warning residents, businesses and organizations of a scam in which a man claims to be collecting donations for local non-profits.

Police say 51-year-old Kenneth Roth is believed to be soliciting donations for the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Angel Tree program. He has also claimed to be affiliated with the United Way, Make a Wish Foundation, churches and other local organizations. Police do not think Roth is actually a volunteer or employee of any legitimate non-profit.

Police say Roth uses a wheelchair and is believed to be currently homeless.

Investigators say they have not received any report of Roth actually receiving any money through this scam, and he has not been charged at this time.

Anyone who encounters Roth saying he is from a non-profit or who had given him money under those pretenses should contact police by calling (859) 258-3600.
