Local Same-Sex Couple Talks IRS Decision

The Internal Revenue Service announced that same-sex couples who have been legally married can file taxes jointly no matter which state they live.

Ross Ewing and David Cupps of Lexington have been together for more than seven years.

They say the IRS’s decision to recognize same-sex marriages is a big momentum boost for LGBT civil rights.

Ewing and Cupps never went out of state to get a legal marriage certificate, but say the IRS’s ruling gives them another reason to say their vows again and be a federally recognized married couple.

The IRS says the rule will take effect on September 16th.
