Lexington enacts phase one of heat alert due to high temperatures

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Phase I Heat Alert has been issued by the Lexington Emergency Management Division.

Due to the heat index being expected to reach 95 degrees Fahrenheit, the alert is in effect starting Monday, June 17 through Saturday, June 22.

The alert allows people experiencing homelessness, to ride the LexTran for free to cooling stations in town.

Various community centers around the city will have cooling stations, including the Dunbar Center, Kenwick, Castlewood, and Tates Creek.

These centers will be open into the evening for those in need of relief from the heat.
