UPDATE: KSU restores heat in dorms

UPDATE: (11/30/18)– Kentucky State University has announced that heat has been restored to Chandler Hall, J.S. Hathaway Hall, Kentucky Hall, the Carl M. Hill Student Center and the Julian M. Carroll Academic Services Building.

KSU says they have completed a detailed needs assessment and audit of its facilities. An agreement with the state will assist with the overhaul and replacement of the aging infrastructure to address heating, air, plumbing and other system issue.

The university is set to begin facility upgrades in January 2019.

UPDATE: (11/27/18) — Some Kentucky State students are still without heat and it’s been over a week now.

The university says this is because a part for the campus building’s HVAC system needs replacing.

“Because of the age of that system the pipe piece had to be manufactured,” says KSU president Christopher Brown. “It does not even exist, it’s not produced regularly anymore so we ordered it and we’ve been on top of it.”

The university says the part was expected to arrive Monday but a shipping delay means the students will be without heat until Friday.

Students are still being recommended to stay at the Capital Plaza Hotel and can do so until the end of the semester, Dec. 14th.

Brown says the university is able to put the students up in the hotel because of funds it had put aside in case of a disaster such as this.

He says he wants parents and students to know they’re doing everything they can.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ)- In this winter weather, some Kentucky State students have been without heat.

The university blames it on HVAC outages in some dorms.

KSU says it has given out heaters to some students.

It also moved students to the Capital Plaza Hotel Friday and plans on keeping them there through Monday.

Shuttles are taking students between the hotel and campus.

The university says a replacement part for the HVAC system will arrive Monday.
