KSP warns of sex offender scam

HICKORY, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police are warning of a phone scam targeting convicted sex offenders.

Investigators say someone is calling convicted sex offenders and telling them they are non-compliant with the rules and restrictions they must abide by for being on the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry.

The caller tells the sex offender to go to a local store and buy gift cards in order to rectify the situation.

Investigators say anyone who has been a target of this scam should contact their local law enforcement agency.
