Kentucky corporate LGBT inclusion numbers released

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTVQ) – The Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, today released the 2016 Corporate Equality Index, an annual report assessing LGBT inclusion in major companies and law firms across the nation, including 5 in Kentucky.

The CEI rates companies and top law firms on detailed criteria falling under five categories:

  1. Non-discrimination policies
  2. Employment benefits
  3. Demonstrated organizational competency and accountability around LGBT diversity and inclusion
  4. Public commitment to LGBT equality
  5. Responsible citizenship

In total, 851 companies were officially rated in the 2016 CEI, up from 781 in the 2015 report. The average score for companies and law firms based in Kentucky is 89 percent. Of the 5 companies ranked, 3 earned 100 percent and 1 earned 80 percent or higher.

The 5 Kentucky companies rated, and their 2015 CEI scores are as follows:

  • Brown-Forman Corp., 100
  • Humana Inc., 100
  • Lexmark International Inc., 100
  • Yum! Brands Inc., 80
  • Ashland Inc., 65
