Indictment and arrest after online scam investigation

FRANKFORT, KY. (WTVQ) – A Washington Co. grand jury has indicted a woman accused of operating a fraudulent online scam to raise money for a fictitious dying child.

63-year-old Frankie Louise Yates of Springfield was arrested last Thursday after an investigation into a complaint that she was soliciting money and gifts online for a terminally ill boy.  The Sheriff, along with the Department of Criminal Investigations discovered that the boy did not exist.  According to detectives, about 70 people from across the U.S. and Canada donated more than $16,000 dollars in toys, books, and gift cards to Yates over a three to five year period.

Theft by deception over $10,000 is a class C felony.
