Homeless shelters preparing for influx during cold snap
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Temperatures are expected to be frigid over the next few days and too cold for the homeless to stay out on the streets.
To help keep the homeless from the elements the Catholic Action Center will be expanding its hours and will remain open for the next 24 hours. They say they plan to keep that schedule until the weather breaks.
The center says people are stopping by for things other than shelter. Coordinator Letha Simms, says many are stopping by for a meal. “We’re providing for the whole surrounding area of Lexington. We have many people coming here getting food and wanting donations as well,” said Simms.
Due to the influx of homeless the shelter expects to see in the next few days , they are asking the public for more donations. The Catholic Action Center is in need paper products, food, garbage bags, and cleaning supplies.
