High heat today, rain chances tomorrow
Dangerous heat possible this afternoon
Sunshine will be abundant today, which will help us quickly warm up to the low 80s by lunchtime and the mid-90s by late afternoon/evening. Because we have the humidity sticking around, feels-like temperatures will reach the upper-90s to low-100s. This means that we will need to use caution as we’re heading outdoors today, being sure to take frequent breaks and stay hydrated. You’ll also want to use sunscreen if you’re outdoors, as the UV index will reach 8-9 and sunburn can occur in as little as 20 minutes.
The heat fades, but rain chances rise
A cold front is set to move through the Bluegrass Region starting tonight. This will bring rain chances to the NW, mostly N of I-64, after midnight. A few storms could strengthen and cause gusty winds and torrential downpours, but other than that, the severe threat is low. Showers fade in the morning but revamp as the front keeps moving through. This brings central/SE KY scattered rain/storm chances in the afternoon to late evening. We’ll continue to see the chance for localized heavy rainfall with a few of these storms. Rain chances fade as we head into the weekend, with only a few isolated showers possible on Thursday.
Seasonal to end the week, below average to follow
Temperatures following the cold front will drop due to cloud cover and NW winds. We’ll be close to average in the upper-80s to finish out the work week. By the end of the weekend, temperatures are trending closer to the mid-80s, which is a bit milder for this time of year. Long-term outlooks show the end of the month continues to trend below average, with overnight lows possibly returning to the 50s and highs in the upper 70s to end out the month. There is still time for this forecast to change, but it goes to show that we are on the back half of summer, heading towards fall.
