Frigid air settles in behind the winter storm
The winter storm on Sunday and Monday dropped significant snow amounts in many areas in central Kentucky, with Frankfort reporting 8.3 inches of snow and the Blue Grass Airport showing 6 inches. Ice is another issue, resulting in thousands without power Monday, and many areas getting a quarter to a half of an inch of snow. Tonight, we will be quiet but cold with wind chills expected to be -10° Tuesday morning.
Mid week will continue to be mostly quiet, with a few flakes possible in northeastern Kentucky Wednesday. Highs will remain below average, in the low to mid 20s, with overnight lows in the single digits and wind chills below 0° each morning.
Friday and Saturday we could be seeing more snow fall, as another winter system moves through the eastern US. The exact timing is still being carefully watched, but most models are in agreement that snow is likely for central KY. Stay up to date and weather aware with ABC 36 as this next winter system approaches.
