A first look inside Lexington’s new facility for the homeless

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – During frigid temperatures two of Lexington’s shelters operate at capacity to keep the homeless from the cold.

As ABC 36 previously reported – The Catholic Action Center (CAC) and the Community Inn will soon be located at a brand new facility beginning April 2017.

The new building is located at 1055  Industry Road.

The Catholic Action Center currently is open during the day from 8 am – 7 pm, while the Community Inn operates during evening hours from 7pm to 8am.

Ginny Ramsey, co-director of the Catholic Action Center says the move would provide Lexington with a 24 hour homeless shelter.

The new building will allow the CAC to help more people without shelter as well as aid them in their transition to permanent shelter.

Ramsey showed ABC 36’s Fadia Patterson the new site which will have a brand new kitchen, laundry facilities, more bathrooms, showers, lockers, cell phone charging stations and is wheelchair accessible.

CAC’s Compassionate Caravan will also start operating at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday to help people out in the cold who aren’t staying in a shelter.

Riders on their way to a shelter can ride LexTran for free.
