Feeling more like February into the upcoming weekend

After light snow accumulations possible Friday evening, much colder air arrives for Saturday.

We played the waiting game much of Friday as a way of low pressure made a bee line for the region with overcast conditions and cooler temperatures in the mid to upper 40s. As we progress through Friday evening, rain is expected to change to snow as colder air wraps in behind the low as it quickly moves to our east. With this set-up we should see some light accumulations of snow especially across the northern half of the state with a mainly rain event with sleet and snow mixed in the farther south you go.

This will be a quick hitting system and be in and out in short order so by Saturday morning we should be drying out. Below are the expected impacts and amounts by the time things wrap up and keep in mind some slick roadways will be possible late Friday night and into Saturday morning.

Tg Snow

Saturday should be quiet with a mix of clouds and sunshine early before some drier air moves in and clear us out so expect more in the way of sun later in the day. With a brisk northwest wind at 10 to 15 miles per hour the sunshine won’t do much to help warm us up as afternoon highs struggle to reach the low and mid-30s. Tack on the wind and our “feel-like” temps will be down into the 20s during the day so plan accordingly if you have to be out and about.

Tg Windchill

The quiet weather will continue for the second half of the weekend including Presidents Day on Monday as some folks enjoy a long holiday weekend. With more sunshine expected on Sunday temperatures should recover nicely after another cold start (lows around 20 degrees) and rebound into the low 40s. The nice recovery with temperatures will continue into Monday as a southwest flow kicks in and temperatures recover back into the low-50s.

Tg Fly

Another spring-like stretch with above average temperatures is on the way next week with highs climbing toward the 60 degree mark by the middle of the week. A weak system could produce some cloudiness on Tuesday holding temps into the 50s but winds will pick up yet again ahead of our next storm system helping afternoon highs back into the 60s by Wednesday. Rain chances ramp up on Thursday and with enough mild air around, a few scattered thunderstorms will be possible as well.
