EKU soccer’s Nerea De Diego named All-South Region Third Team

This is the first all-region award for an EKU soccer player in program history.

RICHMOND, Ky. (EKU Athletics)  Eastern Kentucky University freshman soccer player Nerea de Diego was named to the United Soccer Coaches South Region Third-Team, the USC announced on Monday

This is the first all-region award for an EKU soccer player in program history.

“It is exciting for EKU and Nerea to be recognized on a national level for the first time” head coach Matt Cosinuke said. “We have had a lot of program “firsts” this season and we couldn’t be more happy with Nerea’s contributions. This is a young family with a bright future and we fully expect awards of this level to be the new normal as a reflection of continued program growth.”

De Diego was named ASUN Freshman of the Year, ASUN Second Team All-Conference, ASUN All-Freshman Team,  and ASUN All-Tournament team in her first year as a Colonel.

De Diego’s Freshman of the Year award was the first Freshman of the Year award in program history.

De Diego finished the regular season with three goals, two assists, and eight points. Her three goals ranked tied for second on the team. She finished second on the team with 14 shots on goal and an impressive .667 shot on goal percentage. De Diego has one game winning goal. She was the key piece in the midfield for the Colonels starting all 19 matches.
