Drying out with typical late March weather this weekend
Scattered rain showers will end with some sunshine returning by Saturday afternoon
It was a somewhat damp and dreary Friday across Central and Eastern Kentucky as a few scattered rain showers worked back into the commonwealth to end the week. Once again we had a decent temperature gradient from south to north during the afternoon with our southern counties well into the 60s to near 70 degrees for highs while farther north some rain cooler air held readings in check mainly in the 50s and lower 60s.
Scattered rain showers should continue Friday evening and into the early hours of Saturday as the wave of low pressure to our south continues to throw moisture northward and it interacts with the approaching cold front from the west. The best chance for some steady rain should be across the south where the deeper moisture is. During the daylight hours on Saturday things should dry out nicely with nothing more than a leftover shower out east and some morning clouds. Sunshine should return by the afternoon but a breezy north wind will hold temperatures down and make it feel even cooler than our expected highs into the upper 40s and low 50s.
We’ll start our rebound of milder temperatures beginning Sunday and especially on Monday as a southwest flow returns ahead of our next storm system set to arrive early next week. It should be a typical late March day to end the weekend with some sunshine and afternoon highs right around average in the upper 50s. Winds should pick up out of the southwest on Monday with a mix of clouds and sunshine so it will feel much more like spring as highs make a run toward the 70 degree mark in several spots.
Our best rain and storm chances will arrive Monday night and into Tuesday as a frontal boundary slides through the Ohio Valley. We could see some pockets of heavier rain at times along with storms, although the chances of severe weather seems to be focused to our south and southwest but as always we’ll have to keep an eye on it. Once this system clears, we’ll cool down again for the mid-week before temperatures begin to recover again late in the week.
