Dry and milder as we head into the upcoming weekend
After the coldest stretch of the season so far, temperatures should get back into the 60s for highs the next few days
It was another frosty start to Thursday across Central and Eastern Kentucky with high pressure sitting right overhead. This set up optimal conditions for cooling thanks to the clear skies and light winds so early morning lows were in the 20s across the board yet again. We did see another sunny afternoon and this time a light south breeze helped push afternoon highs into the low and mid-50s. While this is still below average for early November, it’s been than the last few days and that upward trend will continue in the coming days.
High pressure will settle to our east into Friday so expect more sunshine and the southwest wind to stay in place. It may actually be a bit breezy through the afternoon so that should help push temperatures into the low 60s for afternoon highs. It looks like a nice night for the first round of the high school football playoffs here in the commonwealth with fair skies expected and temperatures falling through the 50s during the game, which is great football weather!
Heading into the upcoming weekend, our tranquil weather pattern will remain as the area of high pressure drifts to the south and settles over the Carolinas. This will keep the mild air in place with a south wind and also keep a storm system to our northwest out of the area. There may be a few more scattered clouds around but at this point the rain chances should stay north of the commonwealth. Afternoon highs will be a bit above average with mid to even upper 60s possible! Don’t forget to set your clocks back 1 hour Saturday night before bedtime as Standard Time returns at 2am Eastern.
Head toward Election Day early next week, the model data has slowed down the approaching front boundary to our north so that may delay the on-set of our rain chances here in the Bluegrass. It still appears we’ll see some shower activity, but it looks to come in waves with the best chances mid to late next week. The latest Drought Monitor out today has improving conditions north and west of Lexington with the rain from this past weekend with Eastern Kentucky falling into the “abnormally dry” category especially with that part of the state seeing the least amount of rain with this past weekend’s system.
