Dry and feeling more like late April this weekend
After a small-like week across Central and Eastern Kentucky, temperatures will be a bit cooler the next few days.
It was a cloudy and somewhat dreary finish to the week across Central and Eastern Kentucky Friday, a far cry with the summer-like weather we enjoyed much of the week. The sunshine and low 80s for highs were replaced with low clouds, some drizzle and temperatures only in the upper 50s to low 60s depending on location thanks to a cold front moving in. This is the same front that brought some heavy rain along with thunder and lightning during the early hours of Friday. The good news is that the upcoming weekend should be dry and fairly pleasant for this time of the year with temperatures a bit cooler.
With an area of high pressure building into the Central Plains, winds will be out of the northwest on Saturday helping to usher in some additional cool air. The expected sunshine should counter-act that a bit but afternoon highs should stay below the curve for late April with temperatures topping out in the low 60s. Add the breeze in and it should definitely be a pleasantly cool spring day. The most important thing is that dry weather is expected for any outdoor plans you may have.
A wave of low pressure will slide by to our south on Sunday throwing some high level cloudiness northward for the second half of the weekend. This will cut down on our sunshine a bit and help to hold temperatures in the upper 50s on Sunday so that will be our coolest day. Speaking of cool, we are set-up for a few chilly mornings on Sunday and especially Monday morning with readings dipping down into mid-30s in a few spots. As a result we’ve have to watch for the frost potential with everything in full bloom so that’s just something to keep an eye on this weekend. We are pretty close to when our average last frost occurs so we shouldn’t see any major issues at this point.
Heading into next week we’ll see more in the way of sunshine as a quick shot of high pressure takes over once again. Afternoon highs will climb back into the mid to upper 60s ahead of another frontal system that is set to arrive into the middle part of next week. Our best window for rain chances along with a few rumbles of thunder should be Tuesday night and into early Wednesday.
