Delightful June weather on tap for the mid-week
Look for plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures the next few days
It was a delightful Tuesday across Central and Eastern Kentucky as an unusually strong area of high pressure across the Great Lakes began its slow march to the south. With abundant sunshine area-wide, it was a perfect day to enjoy some time outdoors. A breezy northeast wind, which gusted over 20 miles per hour at times. continued to push dry air into the region while holding temperatures into the mid to upper 70s for afternoon highs.
Our weather should remain picture perfect for the early part of June on Wednesday as the high pressure system to our north drops a bit closer into the Ohio Valley. With such dry air in place, temperatures should drop all the way into the mid-50s for early morning lows, but look for a quick recovery given the full sunshine that’s expected across the board from start to finish. Even with a light east wind in place, afternoon highs should run closer to the 80 degree mark putting us right around average for this time of the year. It will definitely be a day to spend as much time outdoors as possible.
The quiet weather should continue as we finish out the week as the strong high pressure center makes its way toward the east coast. This will allow a bit of a return flow from the south, which will allow temperatures to climb back into the 80s across Central and Eastern Kentucky. More sunshine is expected and humidity levels should still remain comfortable even with a southwest wind slowly returning some moisture to the area. Afternoon highs should reach the low-80s on Thursday before jumping a few degrees above average into the mid-80s as we close out the week on Friday.
The extended stretch of warm and dry weather now looks to continue into the weekend but it will definitely feel more summer-like across the commonwealth. Southwest winds will bring more moisture up from the Gulf so it should be noticeably more humid for any outdoor plans you may have on Saturday so go along with very warm temperatures. With plenty of sunshine on tap, afternoon highs will run back into the mid-80s. A few showers and storms will finally creep back in the picture by Sunday and into early next week as the combination of the warmth, moisture from the south, and a weak front drifting in from the north increases the rain chances. While the activity doesn’t look to be widespread, scattered showers could impact outdoor plans a bit to close out the weekend and you may need to rain gear on occasion into early next week. Temperatures will remain warm with highs in the low to mid-80s.
