Cooling stations available for those struggling in heat
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- The heat is so oppressive this week Lexington has a plan to keep people safe and cool.
Cooling stations with water are set up at the New Life Day Center, the Hope Center and the Catholic Action Center.
Some of those centers are also out checking on the homeless, handing out bottled water, food, and other supplies.
“It’s particularly dangerous because they can dehydrate quickly, they don’t have a place for shelter, they don’t have the access to water, they’re, unless they plan ahead, they can be in a very critical point, particularly at the heat of the day,” said Ginny Ramsey, the Catholic Action Center’s shelter director.
Some shelters are also relaxing restrictions this weekend, allowing people who might not normally be allowed to stay inside during the day to come in and cool off.
