Cold air departs quickly with milder temperatures into the mid-week
High pressure should dominate for the final few days of the fall season
After our first taste of winter weather to kick off the week Monday with scattered snow showers and some light accumulations across parts of Central and Eastern Kentucky, sunshine returned around the area of Tuesday. Unfortunately that sun did little to help moderate our temperatures as afternoon struggled to reach the mid to upper 30s after starting out in the upper teens Tuesday morning.
High pressure will continue to dominate our weather into the mid-week with more sunshine and tranquil conditions expected. Temperatures will be cold to start Wednesday in the 20s but with a light south wind combined with the sunshine, afternoon highs should jump nicely back into the upper 40s to around 50 degrees!
Even with a few scattered clouds around it should be a pleasant stretch of weather as we close out the fall season and welcome winter officially late Thursday as highs reach the low 50s to end the week. With a boundary off to our northwest, we could see a passing showers later on Friday and into Saturday morning but those should be few and far between.
Looking ahead to the holiday weekend, it doesn’t appear a white Christmas is in the cards this year as temperatures stay well above average for this time of the year. While Christmas Eve looks mainly dry, a storm system moving from the west should increase on rain chances the deeper we go into Christmas Day so it could be a damp holiday. Afternoon highs will be mild int the mid to upper 50s, a good 10 to 15 degrees above average for late December.
