Burnside PD receives complaints of secret shopper scam
PULASKI COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- The Burnside Police Department warns people of a possible scam.
Burnside Police say that during the investigation it was discovered the scammer was soliciting people to sign up for a Secret Shopper program. The scammer in this incident contacted the person via text message about the program. When you reply to the text message the scammer will attempt to gain your name and mailing address. You will then receive a Priority Mail package with instructions detailing the program/scam.
In the package will also be a “Money Order” for the United States Postal Service. This money order contained in the envelope is counterfeit and not valid. The scammer will instruct you to cash the money order, keep some money for your payment, then forward money to another person.
Police say to use caution when signing up for any online surveys and programs that you can make “easy money”.
The money order in the upper corner of the photo is counterfeit and the one in the bottom right corner is of a real money order from the United Stated Postal Service. Notice the differences in the two with the security strip, watermark, print, and color of the paper.
