Blazes fly along Legacy Trail

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Sixty-one flags, or “blazes” are in place along Legacy Trail, a cycling and walking trail in Lexington.

The blazes hang in clusters of three to five, with each grouping inspired by its location along the trail.  Funding for the colorful displays was raised privately by the Blue Grass Community Foundation.  The blazes are part of the Legacy Trail Public Art Master Plan. The plan was put together in 2010 by a citizens group and representatives of the Blue Grass Community Foundation and LexArts.

Currently, the Legacy Trail runs eight miles from the Northside YMCA to the Kentucky Horse Park.  The trail will continue to expand.  An additional phase will stretch the trail from the Northside Y to the Isaac Murphy Memorial Art Garden.
