Blasting Starts In Downtown Lexington
If you feel that ground shake or hear a blast near downtown Lexington Monday morning, don’t be scared, officials said.
The blasting is part of Centrepointe’s construction project, and is being carried out to make room for a multi-story underground parking garage.
The blasting is scheduled to occur around 10 a.m., and may scare some people, police officials said.
The blast won’t happen without a warning, officials said. State law requires a loud horn to be blown five minutes before the blast.
The blasting will continue five to six days a week, and will last for several weeks, the construction company tell ABC 36.
If you live or work near downtown, city officials suggest that you sign up for text alerts. The text messages alerts will be sent five minutes prior to each blast, and then again when the “all clear” is given after the blast is complete.
You can sign up for the text alerts by texting BLASTING to 4-6-7-8-6.
To keep people safe, Lexington Police will also be closing down roads around the construction site.
Those roads closures, which should only last 10 minutes, are:
-
Main St. at Limestone St.
-
