Bevin to rededicate center in honor of military families
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) – Republican Gov. Matt Bevin will rededicate the Capitol Education Center to honor Kentucky families who have lost loved ones in the military.
The education center opened in 2013. It sits next to the state Capitol and offers exhibits for school groups and other visitors. Former Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear named it after his wife, then-first lady Jane Beshear, to honor her efforts to create it.
But Bevin’s administration removed Beshear’s name from the building shortly after taking office. Bevin and Steve Beshear have clashed often since Bevin was elected. Beshear started a nonprofit group to oppose Bevin’s health care policies and Bevin launched a public corruption investigation of Beshear and his top aides.
Bevin, a U.S. Army veteran, said earlier this year it was not his decision to rename the building.
The ceremony will be at 1 p.m. Monday.
