Better weather mid-week as the upper low exits

It should feel more like early May into Wednesday

After several days of damp, dreary, and downright chilly conditions, Central and Eastern Kentucky finally caught a break on Tuesday. That pesky upper-level low that had been spinning over the Ohio Valley has moved off to the east, allowing sunshine to return and temperatures to climb back into the mid to upper 60s. While that’s still a few degrees below normal for early May, it’s certainly a step in the right direction—and a welcome one at that.

Pleasant Midweek Ahead

Wednesday brings another pleasant day across most of the region. While a weak wave of low pressure from the southwest will toss a few clouds into the mix—and maybe a stray shower across southwestern Kentucky—most locations will remain dry. Expect a mix of sunshine and clouds with afternoon highs finally back into the low and mid-70s. It’s shaping up to be one of the nicer days we’ve had in quite some time and a great chance to spend some time outdoors.

Thursday Showers, But No Washout

By Thursday, our weather gets a little more active again. A cold front dropping in from the north and a low-pressure system to our south will team up to bring scattered showers and a few thunderstorms. While there is a decent chance for rain at times—especially in the afternoon—it’s not expected to be an all-day event. Think isolated to scattered activity so you’ll want to keep the umbrella handy, but most of the day should still offer some dry breaks. Highs will remain pleasant in the low to mid-70s.

Looking Good for Mother’s Day Weekend

If you’re already making plans for Mother’s Day weekend, things are looking promising. Behind Thursday’s front, high pressure will build back in and help deliver a mostly dry and pleasant stretch of weather. Expect sunshine to return by Friday afternoon with slightly cooler highs in the upper 60s. Saturday looks great with mostly sunny skies and highs in the low 70s, and Sunday should warm even more into the mid to upper 70s. One thing to watch: there’s a upper low that’s expected to be blocked by high pressure over the area but it may try to drift north by late Sunday. If it gets here sooner than expected it could bring a few showers, but for now we’re keeping the forecast dry and pleasant.
