Beryl’s remnants keep things unsettled into the mid-week

A few leftover showers and breezy conditions can be expected as this system moves away from the area on Wednesday

We definitely had a “tropical” feel to the air on Wednesday across Central and Eastern Kentucky, mostly due to the remnant low pressure center that was once tropical system Beryl. Even though these systems weaken significant as they move farther inland, they still have a lot of spin and low-level circulation with them, especially on the right side of the storm. With the system tracking just to our northwest Tuesday, that set the stage for a hot and humid day along with several isolated to scattered storms that all had the capability of producing spin-up tornadoes due to the factors I mentioned above. The good news is that threat should go away into the early hours on Wednesday but we’ll still see some impacts from the storm system.

As Beryl’s remnants pull to the northeast Wednesday we’ll begin to shift toward the backside of the system, so our severe storm chance should go away. One thing we’ll be dealing with that we typically don’t see this time in July is a breezy day. West to southwest winds could gusts around 30 miles per hour at times (again which is rare in July as the air is pretty stagnant) and we’ll see some cloudiness hanging around. A few scattered showers and storm will be possible as temperatures are held in check. Afternoon highs should only make it into the low-80s and humidity levels will begin to drop off a bit, which will be a prelude of things to come for the late week.

A bit of moisture could linger into Thursday as the remnant low continues northeast into Southern Canada but we are looking at mainly dry conditions and highs in the mid to upper 80s, which is not bad for this time of the year. To close out the week Friday and head into the upcoming weekend it is definitely going to feel very much like mid-July with hot air building back in and some humidity around. Highs Friday will sneak into the low 90s and we’ll climb the ladder even more into the weekend.

It should be a pretty typical summer weekend across the region with hot and humid conditions across the board. Afternoon highs look to reach the low to mid-90s, which isn’t anything we haven’t dealt with before but you’ll definitely want to hydrate and use some common sense with it being a weekend and many outdoor activities going on. The bigger story beyond the heat is the lack of widespread rainfall of late, which is becoming more of an issue. The expected heat through the 7 day forecast and beyond should expand our abnormally dry area and possibly put part of the state in the Moderate drought when the next drought monitor is updated Thursday. We’ll keep an eye on that going forward.
