Another sneak peek of fall weather is on the way
Temperatures and humidity levels should be well below the curve for late August into the mid-week
After a stormy and unsettled weekend of weather across Central and Eastern Kentucky we started to see some slow improvement in overall conditions to kick off the week Monday. With the last bit of energy rotating on the backside of the departing low pressure well to our northeast, a few showers popped up through the afternoon hours across our southern and southeast counties with the Bluegrass region remained dry under a mix of clouds and sunshine. Most locations saw temperatures below average into the upper 70s and low 80s for afternoon highs and this w2ill be a prelude of things to come as we catch another break from the heat and humidity into the mid-week.
High pressure will drop out of Canada and into the Great Lakes over the next few days bringing very tranquil weather and another sneak peek of fall-like weather for the Bluegrass. Temperatures should dip down into the mid-50s to begin Tuesday so it should feel great out the door in the morning. Expect a good bit of sunshine with a few fair weather clouds in the afternoon but the key will be below average temperatures and the lack of humidity. Afternoon highs should remain in the mid to upper 70s with a pleasant north wind so it will feel fantastic to be out and about. This should begin an extended stretch of dry weather with no rain chances in sight for the next several days.
Our nicest day of this week should be on Wednesday as temperatures drop all the way into the low 50s, which will flirt with potential record lows in the upper 40s for that date. Once the sun comes up it should be another banner day with more sunshine and afternoon highs still very pleasant into the upper 70s as high pressure continues to dominate. It is late August afternoon after all so you know the break from the heat won’t last long so we’ll begin the warming process on Thursday as we start to see a bit of a return flow from the south. Highs should jump back into the mid-80s on Thursday and after a super nice break from all the muggy air, it should become more noticeable into the late week.
Dry weather will hold serve to end the week and head into the upcoming weekend but it is going to feel more like this time of the year as temperatures heat up nicely. Friday night is the kickoff for the 2024 Kentucky high school football season and while it will be good in the sense of no rain chances, highs should reach the upper 80s so it may be a bit toasty even into the evening hours as the games get going. Expect a hot late summer weekend ahead with additional sunshine, a little more humidity and afternoon highs surging back into the low 90s. This extended dry stretch this week should help temperatures overachieve and heat the surface more effectively even with some of the recent rainfall. It will be a good weekend to enjoy some time by the pool or the lake as summer rapidly comes to a close.
