Anderson County fire crews prepare for flooding emergencies

ANDERSON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- Battalion Chief Marty Terry of the Anderson County Fire Department says crews are preparing for potential flooding emergencies over the next few days with persistent rain and snow in the forecast.

Terry says his crews are preparing their rescue equipment and boats.  He says the department’s three rescue boats get a lot of use when county roads flood.

With potential flooding, he cautions people to remember to “Turn around, Don’t Drown!”  He says the department handles on average more than 20 rescues a year of people who get trapped in vehicles because they tried to drive through a flooded road.

He reminds people to stay up to date on the weather forecast, monitor water levels, especially if you live or travel in flood-prone areas, and use common sense.  Don’t put yourself in potentially dangerous situations.
