A quick shot of cooler air Friday as a few showers linger

Good news for the weekend as temperatures should rebound nicely

We’ve had several days of damp and dreary weather across Central and Eastern Kentucky and Thursday was no different. With a strong area of low pressure spinning through the region we saw several rounds of moderate to heavy rain with Southern and Southeastern Kentucky dealing with the strong storm potential thanks to some brief breaks in the clouds earlier in the day. Once the low spins to our northeast, the severe threat will wind down but unfortunately our rain chances won’t.

Tg Rain Chance

Expect a blustery and somewhat chilly Friday across the area as a strong west to northwest wind coupled with clouds and a few occasional showers help to hold our afternoon highs into the mid-50s. Winds will gust over 30 miles per hour so it will feel much cooler than the 50s. Of course the spring meet at Keeneland continues on Friday so definitely dress accordingly for that or anything else you may be outdoors for.

Tg Winds

The good news is that the cooler air will relax out of the region pretty quickly so we are actually looking at a nice weekend for much of the region. With a southwest flow coming around high pressure along the Gulf Coast combined with some additional sunshine, afternoon highs should recover to around the 70 degree mark. Even with a weak upper level system to our northwest Sunday, we should stay mainly dry  with just a stray storm possible as temperatures bump up even more into the mid-70s.

Tg Fly

We should enjoy a little touch of summer-like air heading into next week as afternoon highs climb into the mid to even a few upper 70s! Some upper level energy will continue to hang just to our northwest so the stray storm chances remain on Monday and Tuesday but these will be few and far between. A more organized frontal boundary will drop into the Ohio Valley mid to late next week bringing a better chance for more organized storms aqs temperatures remain on the warm side.
