A nice stretch of weather is on tap the next few days

Look for plenty of sunshine and warm highs in the 80s through the mid-week

After a soggy and sometimes stormy weekend, Monday brought one last push of rain and thunderstorms as a cold front swept through the Ohio Valley. A few of those storms packed a punch, particularly in Eastern Kentucky, with damaging winds being the primary concern. Now, we get to enjoy some well-earned quiet weather!

High Pressure Brings Sunshine and Lower Humidity

Behind Monday’s front, high pressure is building in from the west, and that’s going to set the stage for a fantastic stretch of weather starting Tuesday. Expect blue skies from start to finish, with plenty of sunshine and pleasantly warm highs in the upper 70s to near 80. It’ll feel even better thanks to lower humidity, making for one of the more comfortable days we’ve had in a while. A light west breeze will keep the air fresh, and it’ll be a great day to get outside.

This kind of air mass is a rare treat in early June, when we often battle heat and humidity. Dewpoints will stay in the 50s, which is about as refreshing as it gets this time of year.

Midweek: A Picture-Perfect Forecast

That high pressure system remains in control through Thursday, and with it comes more sunshine and gradually warming temperatures. By Wednesday, winds will shift slightly out of the south, allowing highs to climb into the low to mid-80s, and Thursday will be even warmer, with highs pushing into the upper 80s in some spots.

We’ll still have comfortable humidity, so despite the warm-up, it won’t feel muggy just yet. Overall, it’s shaping up to be a string of stellar June days, and perfect weather to spend time outdoors before changes move in late week.

Rain Chances Return by Friday, Just in Time for Father’s Day Weekend

Unfortunately, the dry stretch doesn’t last forever. By Friday, we’ll begin to tap into a deeper flow of Gulf moisture, while a weak upper-level disturbance and boundary slide in from the west. That combination will make the atmosphere ripe for daily rounds of showers and thunderstorms, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours through the Father’s Day weekend.

It won’t be a washout, but expect to dodge downpours and a few storms each day, especially if you’ve got outdoor plans. The primary concern will be locally heavy rainfall, with repeated rounds of storms potentially leading to isolated flooding, especially in low-lying or poorly drained areas.

Temperatures will remain warm and humid, with highs in the mid-80s and lows in the upper 60s to around 70°.
