A chilly Halloween night followed by a mostly dry weekend with a few isolated showers

Temperatures dip into the 40s tonight, with a few isolated showers possible later this weekend before sunshine and milder air return next week.

A sunny and breezy Halloween Friday

Friday brought a welcome change across the region as sunshine returned following the departure of our latest low-pressure system. Skies started off clear, allowing for plenty of sunshine through the morning before a few afternoon clouds drifted through. Winds were a bit gusty during the day, with some spots seeing gusts up to 20 to 25 mph, but those will ease up as we head into the evening hours.

If you’re heading out to trick-or-treat tonight, make sure to bundle up! Temperatures will quickly fall through the 50s and into the upper 40s by late evening, and that light breeze will make it feel even chillier.

A chilly and quiet night ahead

With clear skies setting in, overnight lows will dip into the upper 30s to near 40 degrees by Saturday morning. Areas sheltered from the wind could even see some patchy frost, especially in valleys and other cooler spots. Winds will stay around 5 mph at times, and some mid-level clouds could move in overnight, which may keep temperatures from dropping too much lower.

Dry start to the weekend, with a few late showers possible

Saturday will begin dry and seasonably cool, with highs topping out in the mid to upper 50s. Clouds will gradually increase throughout the day as another upper-level system approaches from the west. By late Saturday night into Sunday morning, a few light, isolated showers will be possible—mainly across central and southern Kentucky. Rainfall amounts will stay light, generally a tenth of an inch or less, and most of the area will dry out again by Sunday afternoon.

Sunshine and warmer days ahead

Once that weak system moves out, the pattern quiets down again heading into next week. High pressure will dominate, bringing back plenty of sunshine Monday through Wednesday. Temperatures will slowly climb back into the low 60s by early next week, making for a mild and pleasant start to November.
