A brief break mid-week but the unsettled weather pattern remains in place

You'll still need the rain gear later this week

After a delightful start to the week on Monday with sunshine and pleasant temperatures, the rain returned to the area Tuesday as a wave of low pressure moved through the Ohio Valley. In addition to waves of rain and storms in place, we saw a bit of a temperature gradient with cooler air across the northern half of the state and milder air down south with a frontal boundary draped over the state. We literally has temperatures in the low to mid-40s for a time in the Bluegrass Region with upper 60s to the south. A few stronger storms were in play mainly across Western Kentucky with a few sneaking in toward the Lake Cumberland area. Fortunately all the rain and storms will wind down into the overnight hours with a lingering shower or two possible.

We’ll be in between systems on Wednesday but unfortunately the low level moisture will stay put, meaning a mostly cloudy day should be on the way. While most locations should be dry, a few passing showers or sprinkles can’t be ruled out given the low level moisture in place and sunshine will be at a premium. Afternoon highs should still reach the upper 50s across the north with mid to upper 60s down south despite the overcast conditions and those numbers are a few degrees above average for the middle part of November.

Heading into the late week the next wave of energy is set to make a run for the commonwealth so look for more legitimate rain chances to return. The first half of Thursday should be dry before a few showers work back into the commonwealth as we get deeper into the afternoon. Once again a frontal boundary will be splitting the state so temperatures will vary depending on locations. Look for low 60s for highs here in the Bluegrass with mid to upper 60s down south. The rain gear will come in handy to finish out the week on Friday as the main surface low spins through the Ohio Valley so look for more rain and storms around. We could see some decent rainfall totals with a solid 1″-1.5″ possible along with even higher amounts in localized areas.

As the wave of low pressure begins to exit the region this weekend, a few scattered showers could hang around on Saturday but at this point it doesn’t look to be a complete wash-out. In fact some of the data is trending a bit drier depending on your model of choice so that’s something we’ll keep an eye on in the coming days. Look for mainly dry conditions as we close out the weekend and head into Thanksgiving weekend with comfortable temperatures for the latter part of November as afternoon highs remain above average, climbing back into the upper 50s and low-60s.
