A brief break from the dreary weather into Wednesday

It's been pretty damp and cloudy since Christmas Day but we could squeeze in a dry mid-week as temperatures stay fairly mild

After a wet Christmas holiday across Central and Eastern Kentucky, we saw more damp weather on Tuesday along with some pretty thick fog during the early morning hours when visibilities were less than 1/4 of a mile at times. The rest of the low was spent dealing with low clouds and occasional drizzle, bur at least temperatures remained above the curve with the far eastern counties surging into the low 60s with afternoon highs dropping back into the mid-50s across the Bluegrass region.

The frontal boundary responsible for all the wet weather of late should be well east of the commonwealth on Wednesday but an upper level low will be slowly spinning into the Ohio Valley from the west. Luckily the system should be far enough away for a punch of drier air  to work into the region along with some additional pleasant air. With a mix of clouds and sunshine, afternoon should recover nicely despite a chilly start to Wednesday. Afternoon highs should reach the low 50s, which is still above average for this time of the year.

Tg Futurecast

Late this week the upper level system will slide right through the heart of the region. This will mean more clouds and scattered showers but this system will also pull some chilly air down to the surface, so the shower activity may be mixed with a few snow flakes Thursday night and into Friday with highs in the upper 30s and low 40s.

Tg Look Ahead

While the final weekend of 2023 looks pretty decent weather-wise with dry conditions and highs in the mid to upper 40s, it may end up being a wet start to the new year as another wave of energy brings shower chances back to the commonwealth on Monday with highs right around 40 degrees. Once again this may include a few wet snowflakes mixed in but it shouldn’t be a major deal as afternoon highs remain chilly in the low 40s.
