Three high school student-athletes sign with EKU volleyball
Carson Ledford, Molly Shomock and AG Vandagriff will join the team for the 2022 season.
RICHMOND, Ky. (EKU Athletics) – Three high school student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent to play collegiate volleyball at Eastern Kentucky University this week, head coach Johnna Bazzani announced today.
Carson Ledford, Molly Shomock and AG Vandagriff will join the team for the 2022 season.
“I’m excited to announce our 2022 recruiting class,” Bazzani said. “AG, Molly and Carson all three bring a different level of play and competitiveness that is going to only make us rise in the ASUN. All three of them see our vision and are ready to come in and make a direct impact here at Eastern Kentucky.”
Ledford is a 6-foot middle blocker from Wilkesboro, North Carolina. She was an all-conference selection and conference player of the year this season at West Wilkes High School after recording 265 kills, 88 blocks and a .420 hitting percentage. Ledford also earned all-conference honors as a junior in 2020 while leading her team to a 17-1 record and a conference championship. She finished that season with 190 kills, 56 blocks and a .373 attack percentage. Ledford garnered all-conference recognition as a freshman and a sophomore after recording 269 and 214 kills respectively.
Shomock is a 5-foot-10 outside hitter/defensive specialist from Lewis Center, Ohio. This past season she was a first team all-conference, first team all-district and third team all-state performer at Olentangy Orange High School. As a junior in 2020, she earned all-district honorable mention while leading her team to conference and district titles.
Vandagriff is a 5-foot-11 right side from Athens, Georgia. As a senior in 2021 at Prince Avenue Christian School, Vandagriff earned all-state honors, was a first team all-region pick and was chosen as the Region 8A Player of the Year. She finished the season with 540 kills and 73 aces. Vandagriff also was chosen first team all-region as a junior in 2020 when she posted 387 kills. She earned second team all-region and first team all-region honors as a freshman and a sophomore.
The Colonels close out the 2021 regular season at home against Bellarmine at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
