Scam Alert: Watch out for man posing as Dell computers representative

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – Richmond police are warning the community about a scam involving a man who’s posing as a Dell computers representative.

A woman told police the man called her and said updates needed to be made to her computer. The scammer reportedly wanted the woman to get online and allow him access to her computer.

The woman told police she realized the man’s information about her computer was incorrect, so she refused to follow his instructions. Police say Dell was contacted. Investigators say the company confirmed that its employees do not make any such calls.

Richmond police is reminding people that they should not allow anyone access to their computers, unless they’ve verified that person’s credentials.
