Feeling more like summer again into the late week

Afternoon highs should head into the low 80s Thursday

It was another pleasant April day across most of Central and Eastern Kentucky despite a few more clouds and some scattered shower activity sliding through the northern and eastern parts of the state during the morning hours thanks to a weak wave of energy moving through. Things settled down a bit into the afternoon hours with a breezy west to southwest wind helping to push temperatures back into the mid to upper 70s in most locations by the end of the day with a few spots even touching the 80 degree mark.

We are set up for a delightful Thursday across the region as high pressure off to our southeast continues to pump unseasonably warm air into the commonwealth. With plenty of sunshine around and a steady south wind in place, afternoon highs should run back into the low-80s in many locations so it will feel great to be outdoors. The timing is good for events like Thursday Night Live in downtown Lexington and the second to last day of the spring meet at Keeneland so you’ll definitely want to get out and enjoy it.

A cold front will be on the move and head into the Ohio Valley as we close out the week Friday so look for some changes as our rain chances pick up. We’ll start the day dry with sunshine in the morning before clouds increase through the afternoon with a few scattered showers and storms arriving prior to sunset. Highs should reach the upper 70s to around 80 degrees despite the increase in cloud cover so it will be another comfortable day. The front will slowly drop through the commonwealth on Saturday and while the chances of scattered storms will stick around, the data is starting to trend a bit drier. If you have outdoor weekend plans, just keep on eye on things and be prepared to make adjustments if needed. Temperatures will remain pleasant with afternoon highs in the mid to upper-70s.

With the front to our south and high pressure nosing into the Ohio Valley with drier air, Sunday is looking good at this point with mostly sunny skies and highs holding steady into the mid to upper-70s so it should be a good day for anything you have planned outside. The next wave of low pressure will slide eastward into early next week so it looks wet and stormy again by Monday and Tuesday with scattered rain and storms on the table. We’ll have to keep an eye on the severe weather potential but for now it appears the best chances will remain to our west and southwest. Afternoon highs will back down a bit and be closer to average for the final few days of April as temperatures top out into the low-70s.
