Chilly start this week before a big warm-up returns

Cold Monday morning, but a nice afternoon ahead

It’s a much different feel across the Bluegrass compared to last week. The summer-like warmth has been replaced with crisp mornings and cool afternoons. Monday started cold, with temperatures dropping into the 30s in many spots. Clear skies overnight allowed temperatures to fall quickly, leading to areas of frost through early morning. A frost advisory is in effect until 10 am.

If you’re heading out early, it’s definitely a jacket kind of start, but the afternoon will feel much better. With plenty of sunshine, highs rebound into the mid-60s, which is right around normal for early April. A dry cold front swings through later in the day, bringing a bit of a breeze, but no rain to worry about.

Chilly nights continue with frost chances

The cold mornings don’t go away just yet. Monday night into Tuesday morning brings another round of chilly temperatures, with lows falling into the mid to upper 30s. Some sheltered and rural areas could dip into the low 30s, which means patchy frost is possible again.

Additional frost or freeze alerts may pop up through Tuesday night, especially in colder valleys and across the Bluegrass region. Winds may stay just strong enough at times to limit widespread frost, but it’s still something to watch closely if you have sensitive plants.

Cooler-than-normal Tuesday

Tuesday ends up being the coolest day of the stretch. A push of colder air from the north keeps highs in the low to mid-50s for some, with low 60s farther south. A steady north to northeast breeze and a mix of sun and clouds will keep things feeling crisp throughout the day. It’s a reminder that we’re still in early spring—even after last week’s warmth.

Midweek warm-up gets underway

By Wednesday, the pattern starts to flip. High pressure shifts to the east, allowing warmer air to return and temperatures to climb back above normal. Sunshine sticks around, helping boost highs into the upper 60s and low 70s.

By Thursday, we’re back into the low to mid-70s, and mornings won’t be nearly as cold thanks to a southerly breeze.

Dry pattern sticks around, with only a small late-week chance

The good news is that dry weather is sticking around. Most of the week stays quiet with no rain expected. By Friday, a weak front gets close to the region, which could bring a slight chance for a shower or storm, mainly north of the area. Right now, confidence is low, so many places may stay completely dry.

Into the weekend, that front likely lifts back north, keeping the warmer pattern locked in.

Feeling more like early summer by the weekend

Temperatures continue to climb as we head into the weekend. Friday brings highs in the mid to upper 70s. By Saturday, temperatures reach the upper 70s to low 80s, and Sunday climbs into the low to mid 80s. That’s well above average for this time of year and a big turnaround from the chilly start we’re seeing now.
