2026 kicks off with a few flurries and chilly temperatures

New Year’s Day may have morning commute impacts

Snow showers moved through southeastern KY overnight, and there may be a few slick spots. In addition to this, a line of snow and mixed precip. is extending out into the Bluegrass, which could cause even more slick spots north of I-64. Still, most of us will be dry and will see no issues. You’ll want to watch out for impacts mainly N of 64 and E of 75.

Temperatures are starting in the low-mid 30s. By the afternoon, we’ll have mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the upper 30s. Winds will be brisk, out of the west, around 10-15 mph. This is just enough to give a frigid feel to the air and will bring wind chill values down to the lower 30s.

Watching for rain chances to end the week

Friday will be partly cloudy and closer to average in the mid 40s. But Friday night, a thick layer of clouds moves in from the SW, along with some light rain showers. This rain will move through overnight, lingering into Saturday morning. Rain chances look to stay concentrated south of the Cumberland Parkway. To the north, skies will stay partly cloudy and dry.

Temperatures Saturday morning will be chilly in the 30s, but by the afternoon, we’ll be near average again in the 40s. Sunday looks the same temperature-wise and will stay dry.

The first full week of 2026 may be mild

Forecast trends are showing temperatures returning to above average, much like what we saw during Christmas. This means we may reach the upper 40s and low 50s. We’re trending dry and calm to start the week, and we’ll track the chance for unsettled weather by mid-week.
