A temperature warm up begins Tuesday afternoon
Chilly and calm Tuesday and Wednesday
Temperatures start in the 20s with a light breeze. Sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots may still be a bit icy, so use caution to avoid slipping. By late morning, we’ll have lots of sunshine, and temperatures will begin to warm. This afternoon we’ll reach the low 40s, feeling a bit closer to average for this time of year. Although we’re not as cold as Monday, when we saw single digits, it’s definitely still chilly and you’ll want to bundle up before heading outdoors.
A cold front brings active weather Thursday
Thursday will start with some light scattered rain showers. By the early afternoon, temperatures will be above average in the mid-50s, but a cold front will be nearing the Bluegrass. Ahead of this front, a line of showers and possibly a few thunderstorms will form. This will bring brief periods of heavy rainfall and some gusty winds to the area through the evening. We are currently under a level 1 severe weather risk for Thursday, due ot the possibility of a few isolated strong wind gusts.
No major impacts are expected other than needed to watch the outdoor Christmas decorations to make sure they don’t blow away! This could change if this system can strengthen but at this time, that looks unlikely. Temperatures will quickly drop behind the cold front during the night, so a few flurries on the back end of the system cannot be ruled out, but this would be brief and would not cause accumulations or impacts.
Brief cooldown before back to mild temps
Friday sees the effects of the cold front with temperatures in the 30s for afternoon highs. This doesn’t last long, though, as the weekend is trending mild in the 40s and 50s. The weekend does look unsettled, however, with the possibility of some rainfall to start the week. This could bring very minor travel impacts to those looking to travel for the Holiday, but as of now nothing too impressive or impactful.
