Kentucky WBB goes 1-1 in Discover Puerto Rico Tournament

PUERTO RICO (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – The wildcats women’s basketball team returned from the Discover Puerto Rico Tournament with an 8-1 record, finishing 1-1 in the two-game showcase.

Kentucky suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday, falling 74–66 to No. 7 Maryland. The terrapins gained a significant advantage at the free-throw line, shooting an impressive 21-of-23, and outpaced the wildcats 21-6 in transition points. Head coach Kenny Brooks said his team played “very uncharacteristic basketball.”

The wildcats responded on Friday with a dominant 101-39 victory over Morgan State, a 62-point win that marked one of their strongest performances of the year. Five Kentucky players finished in double figures, with Asia Boone leading the way once again with 21 points. The wildcats forced heavy pressure on defense, scoring 31 points off turnovers, and overwhelmed Morgan State in the paint by a 50-10 margin.

Brooks said the bounce-back win was an ideal way to regain momentum before Kentucky enters the SEC-ACC Challenge next week, where they will take on Miami at the Watsco Center at 5 p.m.
