Slow improvement in our weather this weekend
We'll finally see a return of some sunshine, especially on Sunday
It’s been a damp and dreary stretch of weather the last few days here in Central and Eastern Kentucky and Friday was no exception. With a frontal boundary laid out across the commonwealth and a wave of low pressure sliding in from the west, we saw another day of scattered rain and a few rumbles of thunder. Temperatures varied once again with locations south of the boundary jumping into the 60s while areas north mainly stayed into the 50s for afternoon highs.
The wet weather will finally come to an end heading into the weekend as the area of low pressure quickly transitions off the southeast. While the rain chances wind down, we could see some stubborn cloud cover linger for a bit as we roll through Saturday. Look for morning clouds and possible some patchy drizzle before enough dry air finally works in to scour out the cloud cover. This can be a slow process this time of the year so some locations may see any day with mostly cloudy skies from start to finish. A north wind combined with the lingering clouds may set us up for underachieving afternoon highs as temperatures struggle to reach the low to mid-50s.
Sunday looks to be the pick day of the weekend as high pressure builds into the Ohio Valley bringing a return of sunshine for the first time in several days. If you have outdoor plans this weekend, it looks like Mother Nature will cooperate nicely on Sunday with mostly sunny skies expected along with nice temperatures. Afternoon highs should jump back into upper 50s to around 60 degrees making for a very pleasant finish to the weekend. Enjoy it while it lasts as the overall unsettled weather pattern stays in place moving into Thanksgiving week. Monday should start out with some additional sunshine before clouds increase through the day, signaling more chances and rain chances on the way as afternoon highs bump back into the low 60s.
The next wave of low pressure should arrive Monday night and into Tuesday with more occasional showers on tap for the Bluegrass. You’ll need the rain gear as low pressure spins through the Ohio Valley bringing more unsettled conditions to the region. Temperatures look to be mild despite the rain with highs in the mid-60s but that won’t last long as some chilly air is poised to arrive later next week. At this point there could be a few lingering showers for the big travel day on Wednesday as a secondary frontal boundary drops through the area. This will usher in a holiday-like feel with colder air moving in just in time for Thanksgiving. Afternoon highs may struggle into the low to mid-40s for Turkey Day with unseasonably cool temperatures staying in place for Black Friday. The latest data keeps things basically dry during that window with the chilly air in place.
