Pleasant fall weather into the late week
Afternoon highs should be right around average for mid-November
After an unseasonably cold start to the week with a winter-like feel to the air, we finally saw some improvement on Wednesday across Central and Eastern Kentucky. Sunshine was a welcome sight around the region after a couple of mostly cloudy and dreary days which helped boost the spirits and our temperatures as well. Breezy west to southwest winds gusting over 20 miles per hour at times pushed afternoon highs back into the upper 50s and even low 60s, which is slightly around average for this time of the year. Folks were treated to an amazing display of the “Northern Lights” Tuesday evening as a magnetic storm coming from the storm overperformed, allowing for the Aurora Borealis to be visible across much of the country. We could see a repeat performance Wednesday night so keep an eye out for that.
Quiet conditions will stay in place heading into Thursday with more sunshine and pleasant weather on tap for the commonwealth. Winds will lighten up as an area of high pressure builds into the region so with mostly sunny skies expected, it should be another banner day here in the Bluegrass with afternoon highs back into the upper 50s, which is spot on for average temperatures for the middle part of November.
Closing out the week on Friday, a mid-level wave of energy looks to slide through the Ohio Valley. We’ve mentioned this possibility the last few days and it appears there may be enough with it now to squeeze out a shower or two so don’t be surprised if we see that. There will be more clouds than sunshine on Friday but temperatures should still be decent as highs manage to sneak toward the 60 degree mark. A warm front arcing through the area may produce a few spotty showers during the overnight hours into early Saturday but they should be gone by the time the sun comes up. Saturday still looks fantastic for mid-November with sunshine and unseasonably mild temperatures as afternoon highs roll all the way into the upper 60s with a few spots even reaching 70 degrees! This should be ideal for any outdoor activities including Kentucky’s final home football game of the 2025 season as the Cats take on Tennessee Tech at 1:30 pm at Kroger Field.
A quick moving cold front will drop in Saturday night and early Sunday with a few more showers but the majority of the day should be dry as the activity should be gone by the late morning hours worst case scenario. Afternoon highs look to reach the low 60s Sunday before some slightly cooler air filters in to begin next week. The data is syncing up a bit more with the timing of the systems in the extended forecast so it’s looking drier on Monday with highs in the mid-50s before our rain chances ramp up once more beginning Tuesday and continuing into the middle part of next week.
