Kentucky football looks to defensive depth amid injuries

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – It was another strong showing for the Kentucky defense on Saturday night against Florida, however, the team’s depth paid a price. Three key players left the game with injuries: Sam Greene, Jordan Lovett and Alex Afari.

Kentucky football will unfortunately have to keep marching without Greene and Lovett. Mark Stoops announced on Monday that the two will be out for the remainder of the season and need to undergo surgery. Stoops also added that Afari will be out for the week, possibly longer.

Tavion Gadson, who did not suit up for the Florida game, is probable for this week against Tennessee Tech.

However, Brad White and company are confidant in the depth of their squad. “It shows what the locker room is like,” said White. “They might not be the starter, but they prepare like a starter.”

Defensive back Ty Bryant added, “I commend everyone who came in. Next man up mentality, that’s what we talk about all the time. They went out there and made a splash and I’m so proud of them.”

Kentucky beat Florida 38-7, and play host to Tennessee Tech at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15.
