No. 24 Kentucky women’s basketball routs Monmouth ahead of first road test
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – The No. 24 Kentucky women’s basketball team responds from a rocky performance on opening night, to a dominant win over Monmouth 104-46. The Wildcats led this game by twenty points before the end of the first quarter and only allowed 18 first half points for the Eagles in this game.
The Wildcats were led by sophomore guard Lexi Blue, who had 18 points all from behind the arc, in Thursday’s 58 point win. Fellow Wildcats Teonni Key, Amelia Hassett, and Asia Boone joined Blue in scoring double figures in the win over the Hawks.
The Wildcats were also stellar on the defensive end and on the glass in this game. They recorded seven steals and eight blocks in the game, three of which were by reigning SEC defensive player of the year Clara Strack. They also were able to a +11 on the rebounding battle in this matchup.
The Wildcats will be back in action on Sunday, when they travel to Buffalo, New York to take on the University of Buffalo. The Wildcats and Bulls are scheduled to tip off at 2 P.M. on ESPN+.
