No. 6 Kentucky finishes off non-conference play with a sweep of Washington
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Fresh off of a top 10 road win against rival Louisville just two days ago, the Wildcats were able to finish off their non conference schedule with a sweep of Washington.
It was not an easy win for Kentucky, as Washington kept each set close, even up by as many as six points in the first set with a 20-14 lead. After that Kentucky went on a 11-3 run to end the set and took the first one.
The second set was a back and forth the entire time. Kentucky once again found themselves in position to lose a set down 23-20. However, after a timeout by Coach Skinner, the cats were able to get it going again, scoring seven of the final nine points in the set to go up 2-0.
In the third set Kentucky was able to keep themselves ahead for most of the set and ended up pulling this one out 25-21.
The star of the match was Eva Hudson. Hudson set a school record with 28 kills in a three set match, breaking Leah Edmond’s record of 22 against Missouri in 2018. It also marked the first time a player had 28 kills or more in a three set match since Cincinnati’s Jordan Thompson had 28 against SMU in 2019.
Kentucky finishes up non-conference play with a 7-2 record, including three top-10 victories. The Wildcats will kick off conference play on Wednesday at Historic Memorial Coliseum against South Carolina at 7:00 P.M.
