Scattered storm chances stay in play into the late week

More warm and humid air is on tap in the coming days

Wednesday brought more of that familiar midsummer feel across Central and Eastern Kentucky. Temperatures climbed into the low to mid-80s, which is a little below average thanks to more extensive cloudiness but the humidity made it feel even warmer. Scattered thunderstorms, some featuring locally heavy downpours and lightning, flared up a bit earlier during the morning hours and continued through the afternoon hours as a weak frontal boundary slowly dropped in from the northwest. Some spots picked up decent rainfall, while others stayed mostly dry.

More Afternoon Storms on the Way for Thursday
The warm, humid, and unsettled pattern doesn’t look to break just yet. That same weak front lingers nearby Thursday, providing just enough lift in the atmosphere to trigger more scattered showers and thunderstorms—mainly during the late afternoon and early evening. We’re not expecting a washout, but like we’ve seen all week, you might get briefly drenched if a storm passes over your neighborhood. Highs will once again range from the mid to upper 80s, and a few lucky spots with more sunshine could flirt with the 90° mark.

“Rinse and Repeat” Forecast Rolling into the Weekend
As we head into Friday and the weekend, the pattern stays locked in. Warmth and humidity will continue to dominate, and with some weak disturbances riding along the northern edge of the heat dome, we’ll keep daily chances for scattered storms going. Again, it’s not a weekend to cancel any outdoor plans, but definitely pack the rain gear and keep an eye on the radar if you’ll be out and about. Heat index values will hover in the 90s, so stay hydrated and use plenty of sunscreen.

A Slight Break from the Storms Next Week?
Looking toward early next week, there are some hints that storm chances might back off a bit—especially by Monday and Tuesday. That could allow temperatures to climb back into the low 90s with sunshine sticking around a little longer each day. It’s still too early to call it a full pattern shift, but we may finally get a short break from the daily storm threat.
