Typical July weather pattern continues into the mid-week
Daily afternoon storm chances will be on the table
It was another textbook July day across Central and Eastern Kentucky with hot and humid conditions dominating the region. Sunshine kicked things off early Tuesday, but by afternoon, scattered thunderstorms developed thanks to daytime heating and a very muggy atmosphere. While not everyone got wet, those who did experienced locally heavy downpours and plenty of lightning. Temperatures peaked in the upper 80s and low 90s, and when you factored in the humidity, it felt more like the mid to upper 90s—definitely a steamy afternoon.
Similar Setup Into Wednesday
Don’t expect much change as we head into mid-week. A weak boundary remains stalled just to our north, and it will help trigger more scattered showers and storms Wednesday afternoon. Like the past few days, coverage won’t be widespread, but a few more of us could see rain than on Tuesday. Any storms that do fire up will have the potential to drop heavy rain in a short period, produce gusty winds, and, of course, lightning. Temperatures will once again climb into the upper 80s to near 90, and with high humidity hanging around, it’ll feel even hotter.
Unsettled Pattern Sticks Around Into the Weekend
Looking ahead to late week and the weekend, the overall weather pattern doesn’t budge much. The combination of warm, humid air and a stalled frontal boundary just to our north will keep daily storm chances in the forecast. We won’t be dealing with all-day rainouts, but scattered storms will be possible each afternoon—so it’s a good idea to keep the umbrella nearby for any outdoor events. Highs will remain consistent in the upper 80s, which is seasonable for this time of year, and overnight lows will stay muggy in the lower 70s.
